A Comprehensive Review of Epilepsy Management

Overview

Within the past decade, new tools have become available for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with epilepsy. In addition, new management strategies and updated guidelines for the treatment of epilepsy have been established. During each symposium, an interdisciplinary panel of distinguished leaders in the fi eld of epilepsy will review the epidemiology, diagnosis, and evaluation of epilepsy. Additionally, updates will be provided regarding guidelines and emerging trends in the treatment of epilepsy. Workshops will provide a venue for participants to interact with experts in discussion of current issues and future directions in epilepsy management. The goal of the symposia is to enhance participants’ knowledge base of epilepsy and its management, as well as optimize their skills in epilepsy care by demonstrating practical application of diagnostic tools and therapeutic options.

Learning Objectives

  • To optimize individual care of your patients, you will learn about the appearance of each seizure type, the nature of the history associated with that problem, and then how to select and evaluate the data obtained from various diagnostic tools.
  • In an effort to provide appropriate care for your patients, you will utilize the patient history to classify the seizure correctly and then determine the most effective method of treatment.
  • Guidelines and practice parameters are developed to aid you in establishing a well-rounded clinical practice with regard to management of epilepsy. You will apply these data and associated legal considerations in order to manage your practice effectively.
  • Patients and their caregivers must know as much as possible about epilepsy to allow them to become partners in treatment. You will educate them on seizure control and develop monitoring plans in an effort to positively impact patient outcomes.
