Phenytoin
Other uses of phenytoinPhenytoin appears to have some efficacy in treating trigeminal neuralgia and other cranial neuralgias. The evidence is not based on controlled studies, however, and carbamazepine should be considered the first choice for these disorders. If carbamazepine is not effective, phenytoin may be added. Phenytoin also has been used for neuropathic conditions including diabetic neuropathy and Fabry's disease but its efficacy appears to be modest. It may potentiate other analgesic agents and is well tolerated. |
